Dangerous Heat Peaks Monday
The National Weather Service expects mostly sunny skies, a high near 110 and south winds of 5 to 15 mph, with gusts reaching 23 mph. Heat index values could climb as high as 106, according to the National Weather Service, while temperatures ease only slightly during the afternoon.
Residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned spaces and limit strenuous activity to early morning or evening. Children and pets should never be left in unattended vehicles, where temperatures can become lethal within minutes; anyone showing signs of heat stroke should be moved to a cool place and treated as an emergency.
Storm Chances Rise Tuesday And Wednesday
Tuesday will remain mostly sunny, but isolated showers and thunderstorms could develop after 2 p.m., with a 20% chance of precipitation and a high near 106. Storm chances increase Wednesday, when scattered storms are possible from late morning through the afternoon and the chance of rain rises to 40% as the high reaches 101.
Any storms that form could bring sudden, erratic wind gusts across the valley, so outdoor plans may need a backup option. The best chance for activity is expected during the afternoon and early evening, when heat and monsoonal moisture overlap.
Cooler, Still Hot, Later This Week
More moisture moving into the region should bring a noticeable cooldown, with highs near 99 Thursday, 98 Friday and 99 Saturday. Overnight lows should fall into the upper 70s and low 80s before mostly sunny skies return Sunday with a high near 103.
