At least six people were injured in a shooting at a house in Portland’s Cully neighborhood early Sunday, with the suspect or suspects leaving before police arrived and no arrests immediately announced. The victims’ conditions were not known as investigators worked to determine what happened inside the home.
Officers responding around 3:33 a.m. found two people with apparent gunshot wounds in the 5800 block of Northeast Alberta Street, according to the Portland Police Bureau. Those two victims were taken to a hospital by ambulance, while four additional victims later arrived at local hospitals in private vehicles.
In its initial X post, police said Northeast Alberta Street was closed between Northeast 57th and Northeast 60th avenues, while Northeast 57th Avenue was closed between Alberta and Northeast Wygant Street. Detectives said numerous people were present before or during the shooting and urged anyone with information to submit a tip using case number 26-224255.
Cully Shooting Follows Citywide Gun Violence Push
The shooting comes less than two weeks after Portland police conducted a two-day citywide operation in response to what the bureau described as an increase in gun violence. The summer operation resulted in seven firearms recovered, 11 arrests and 10 vehicles towed, according to the bureau.
Police also reported a separate Cully shooting on May 3 that injured two people near Northeast 65th Avenue and Northeast Killingsworth Street, with one victim suffering life-threatening injuries, according to an earlier Cully release. No motive, suspect descriptions or other details about Sunday’s shooting had been released.
