Rain and thunderstorms may arrive before 7 a.m. and continue through the afternoon, with another round of storms possible late Monday. The National Weather Service Boston/Norton office says some storms could produce intense downpours, while south winds of 10 to 16 mph may gust as high as 29 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
The forecast calls for roughly three-quarters of an inch to 1 inch of rain in Boston, though rainfall could be much heavier in narrow, slow-moving bands. Regional totals are expected to vary widely, and isolated spots could see 3 to 4 inches, raising the risk of ponding on roads and brief flash flooding in poor-drainage areas.
Gusty Winds And Rougher Coastal Conditions
Monday’s strongest winds are expected across southeastern Massachusetts, where gusts around 40 mph are possible, especially on Cape Cod and the islands. A High Surf Advisory is in effect for south-coast beaches and the islands through 9 p.m., while Small Craft Advisories cover area waters.
Drivers should allow extra time for reduced visibility and slick roads, and avoid traveling through water covering a roadway. Anyone heading to the coast or onto the water should reconsider plans as storms, rough surf and strong winds make conditions less forgiving.

Showers and thunderstorms could linger into early Tuesday morning, but the weather then turns sharply brighter. Tuesday should be sunny with a high near 83 degrees and a west wind around 8 mph, followed by a partly cloudy night with a low near 66.
More Storm Chances Return Midweek
Wednesday looks mostly sunny and warm, with another high near 83, before shower and thunderstorm chances return Thursday afternoon. Periodic storms remain possible Friday through Sunday, with highs in the low to mid-80s and the best chances generally arriving during the afternoon and evening.
