A south Minneapolis afternoon call about a suspicious vehicle turned into a shooting investigation Wednesday, leaving two men injured and one with at least one life-threatening gunshot wound. The other man suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Police said the incident was first reported around 2:57 p.m. near East 38th Street and First Avenue South, according to KSTP. Minneapolis firefighters were flagged down for one injured man, who was taken to a hospital, while a second man later arrived at a hospital with gunshot injuries.
Officers believe they located the shooting scene in the 3900 block of Stevens Avenue South. Minneapolis police said no arrests had been made and that the information they could release remained limited as investigators worked to determine what happened.
New Minneapolis Shooting Team Handles Non-Fatal Cases
The shooting comes as Minneapolis is putting more investigative attention on cases that do not end in a death. The city’s Firearm Assault Shoot Team, known as FAST, began operations in March and sends investigators directly to non-fatal shooting scenes, the City of Minneapolis said.
City data shows the number of non-fatal shooting victims fell from 583 in 2021 to 255 in 2025, while the share of cases closed reached 47% last year. That broader decline offers some context, but Wednesday’s shooting remains an active investigation with one victim seriously hurt.
Stevens Avenue Has Seen Other Gunfire This Year
The Stevens Avenue corridor has also been the scene of other shootings this year. In February, Hoodline reported that two people were shot inside a car on the 2800 block of Stevens Avenue South, including a woman with life-threatening injuries.
