More than two years after Christopher Gray was found shot to death in a St. Louis garage, police are asking the public to take another look at what they may know. The department’s renewed appeal keeps Gray’s June 2024 killing on the city’s list of unsolved homicides.
Gray Was Found Shot Inside A North Hampton Garage
Officers responded to a sudden-death call in the 5000 block of Lindenwood around 2:30 p.m. on June 3, 2024, according to First Alert 4. A man was found inside a garage and pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy later determined he had been shot in the head.
Police identified the victim as 25-year-old Christopher Gray, with the St. Louis Homicide Tracker reporting that the city medical examiner ruled his death a homicide. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department still lists Gray’s case among its unsolved killings.
Detectives Say Even A Small Tip Could Matter
In a Tuesday Facebook appeal, SLMPD asked anyone with information about Gray’s killing to contact homicide detectives at 314-444-5371 or email [email protected]. The department did not identify a suspect in the appeal.
People who want to remain anonymous can contact CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS, according to the department’s unsolved homicide page. SLMPD says tips may be important even when witnesses believe investigators already know what happened.
Gray’s Case Remains Open Amid A Broader Homicide Decline
Gray was killed during a year when St. Louis recorded 150 homicides, the city’s lowest total in 11 years, according to the City of St. Louis. That broader decline does not change the fact that individual cases can remain unresolved long after the crime scene is gone.
For Gray’s family and investigators, the latest request is a reminder that information that seemed minor in 2024 may still help piece together who shot him and why.
