The National Weather Service in St. Louis forecasts a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday, mainly as the day heats up. Winds will stay light from the south at 2 to 6 mph, with partly sunny skies developing through the afternoon.
Extreme Heat Warning Runs Through Saturday
An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 9 p.m. Saturday for St. Louis and surrounding areas. Friday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 100 and a heat index up to 114, followed by a sunny Saturday reaching about 101 degrees.
Overnight relief will be limited, with lows near 78 Thursday night and around 79 Friday and Saturday nights. Residents should drink plenty of fluids, use air conditioning or another cool location, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and check on vulnerable neighbors, children and pets.
Storm Chances Stay Spotty Before A Cooler Turn
Thursday night brings only a slight chance of storms before 8 p.m., so a passing shower may offer little relief from the heat. Sunday should remain sunny and near 100 degrees, but a cold front is expected to move through Sunday night into Monday.
That front could bring a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday while lowering the high to about 89 degrees. Monday night may dip to 71, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 89 Tuesday before temperatures rebound to the low 90s Wednesday.
