New Orleans finally has a Steak ’n Shake, but the city’s first outpost is not on a suburban strip or tucked into a shopping center. It has opened inside Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, bringing the Midwestern burger-and-shake chain to a decidedly New Orleans setting.
According to WDSU, the restaurant is the first Steak ’n Shake in New Orleans and welcomes families, including guests younger than 21. The opening gives locals a new place to chase a Steakburger, milkshake or the chain’s famously skinny fries.
Steakburgers And Tallow Fries At The Fair Grounds
The Fair Grounds says the Louisiana-only location serves grass-fed Steakburgers, beef-tallow fries and shakes. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Steak ’n Shake’s arrival also brings a bit of burger-chain history: The company says it was born on Route 66 in 1934 and helped build its identity around Steakburgers and homemade milkshakes. Its current branding leans into made-to-order burgers, hand-crafted shakes and fries cooked in beef tallow, which is a lot of burger nostalgia to fit beside a slot machine.
Families Should Pay Attention To The Entrance Rules
The Fair Grounds listing says slot customers can receive comps through the venue’s rewards program, while the restaurant accepts credit cards. The same page says guests must be 21 or older to enter the gaming facility, while WDSU reports that families with children under 21 can visit the restaurant, making the access point an important detail for younger diners.
