Charlotte starts Friday with partly cloudy skies, calm winds and muggy air before temperatures climb toward 89 degrees. Most of the day should stay mostly sunny, but a few thunderstorms could rumble through later, bringing a small chance of damaging wind gusts.
The National Weather Service says storms are possible again Friday and Saturday, with isolated flash flooding if any downpour lingers over the same area. No watches or warnings are listed for North Carolina in the current forecast.
Storm Chances Return Before The Weekend Heat
Friday's rain chance remains low overall, but the most likely window for a storm is from the afternoon into early evening. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low around 72 degrees, and any showers or thunderstorms should wrap up before 8 p.m.
Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high near 90, followed by a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m. Sunday gets hotter at 92 degrees, with another slight storm chance late in the afternoon.
Hotter Stretch Arrives Monday
The heat becomes the bigger story next week. Monday should reach 94 degrees, while Tuesday and Wednesday are forecast to hit about 95, with increasing humidity potentially pushing afternoon heat indexes above 100 degrees in and southeast of the I-85 corridor.
For Friday's storms, secure loose outdoor items and head indoors when thunder is heard. Heavy rain may briefly overwhelm drainage in isolated spots, so avoid flooded roadways and check for updated alerts before heading out.
