New York City is waking up Saturday to mostly clear skies and temperatures around 65 degrees, with a north wind making the morning feel crisp by late-summer standards. Sunshine will lift temperatures to about 79 degrees, and the forecast calls for a dry day across the city.
Sunday Brings Back Shower And Thunderstorm Chances
The National Weather Service expects another mostly sunny start Sunday, with a high near 82 degrees before humidity begins building. Rain chances increase after 2 p.m., followed by a chance of showers and thunderstorms into Sunday night, when temperatures should settle near 73 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Sunday night carries a 50% chance of precipitation, with mostly cloudy skies and the possibility of a few heavier downpours. The unsettled weather could complicate late-day outdoor plans, even though much of the afternoon may stay dry.
Storm Chances Linger Into Midweek
Monday should reach about 81 degrees with a slight chance of showers after 2 p.m., followed by a more unsettled Tuesday. Tuesday brings a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms with a high near 79, while Tuesday night has a 60% chance of storms.
Wednesday could be warmer, reaching about 83 degrees, but showers and thunderstorms remain possible. Thursday looks warmer still, near 84 degrees, with another 50% chance of showers and storms before a mostly sunny Friday near 80 degrees.
Beach Plans Are Best Saturday
Ocean beachgoers get the calmer setup Saturday, when the rip current risk is expected to remain low and seas should run around 2 feet. That risk rises to moderate Sunday afternoon as south-to-southwest winds increase and seas build closer to 3 feet, the New York weather office says.
No watches, warnings or advisories are listed for New York City in the current forecast. For now, Saturday is the easy day for parks, errands and beach plans; Sunday through Thursday will require a closer look at the radar.
