San Diego is starting Tuesday with clear skies and temperatures around 72 degrees, setting up a mostly sunny day with a high near 81. West winds will stay light, generally between 0 and 10 mph, while rain chances remain near zero along the coast.
The bigger concern for coastal neighborhoods is minor flooding during the evening high tides. A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect through 11 p.m. Wednesday, with tides between 7.2 and 7.5 feet expected to peak each evening from about 7:30 to 10 p.m.
Evening Tides Could Flood Low-Lying Areas
The advisory covers San Diego County coastal areas and warns of possible flooding in low-lying parking lots, parks and roads. Anyone traveling near the water should allow extra time, avoid driving around barricades and never drive through water of unknown depth.
Mountain Storms Bring A Separate Flood Risk
Thunderstorms are expected over the mountains Tuesday afternoon, with an isolated storm still possible Wednesday. The storms could produce brief heavy rain, lightning, gusty winds and small hail, with rainfall rates near 1 inch per hour creating a marginal flash-flooding risk in parts of San Diego and Riverside counties.
Wednesday will begin a cooler stretch for the region, with San Diego's high near 79 before temperatures settle around 77 to 78 through the weekend. Coastal mornings are also expected to turn cloudier Thursday and Friday as the marine layer deepens, while overnight lows remain mostly in the upper 60s.
