Tampa is waking up clear and steamy Sunday, with temperatures around 76 degrees and humidity near the top of the chart. The quiet start will not last: afternoon heat will push the thermometer toward 94, while the heat index could reach 104 before scattered showers and thunderstorms develop.
Storms Arrive After 2 p.m.
Most of Sunday morning should stay sunny, with temperatures climbing through the 80s and reaching the low 90s early in the afternoon. Storm chances increase after 2 p.m., peaking in the late afternoon and early evening, when brief downpours, lightning and gusty winds could interrupt outdoor plans.
The chance of rain is about 40%, and storms may linger into Sunday evening before tapering off around 10 p.m. Winds will generally be light from the southeast at around 6 mph, but thunderstorms can produce stronger, sudden gusts.
Hotter, Drier Pattern Takes Over
Monday through Thursday will stay mostly sunny, with highs near 94 and overnight lows in the mid to upper 70s. Rain chances fall to around 10% or less most days, although a stray shower cannot be ruled out.
The heat builds again Friday and Saturday, when highs could reach 96 under sunny skies. With no watches or warnings posted for the Tampa area, the main concern is the combination of heat and humidity: drink water, limit strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, and do not leave people or pets in parked cars.
