Two 17-year-olds were arrested in Ceres today after Santa Cruz police connected them to a burst of gunfire near the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. No one was reported injured, but the incident sent people running from the Boardwalk area and triggered a major police response.
Officers responded yesterday to reports of a small fight and shots fired in a parking lot across the street from the amusement park, where police said at least five shots were fired. A KCRA report said viewer video showed crowds rushing away as officers moved around the Boardwalk’s Casino Arcade, with at least seven police vehicles reported at the scene.
Police said no one was struck and no injuries were reported. Officers canvassed the area for suspects, collected multiple pieces of evidence and secured the scene, while the investigation continued.
Gunfire Happened Across From The Boardwalk
The shots were fired outside the park itself, in a parking lot across the street from the Boardwalk. Even so, the location brought the incident within view of visitors and prompted a heavy law enforcement presence around one of Santa Cruz’s busiest summer attractions.
Police have not determined whether additional suspects remain outstanding, and authorities had not publicly identified the teens or announced specific charges in the available reporting. The Santa Cruz Seaside Company said it was working closely with investigators and that there was no active threat to the public, according to KCRA.
