A 120-mph chase on Interstate 555 ended with a Tennessee murder suspect’s vehicle overturned just north of Trumann last Friday. The suspect, 31-year-old Lamarkius Ross, was pulled from the wreck and turned over to Arkansas State Police after a coordinated pursuit involving several local agencies.
The Trumann Police Department said Marion police began the chase after officers spotted a vehicle traveling north without headlights. In an account posted this week, Trumann police said the pursuit continued north on I-555 and reached approximately 120 mph.
Police Set Up Near Interstate 555 Exits
Trumann officers Rodney Laster, Jarred Carter and Sgt. Jonathan Penney moved into position near Exits 24 and 29 as the chase approached the city. Dispatcher Hannah Stanberry obtained information from Ross’ mother that helped authorities positively identify him, according to the department’s account.
The pursuit continued into Craighead County, just north of Trumann, where an Arkansas State Police trooper performed a tactical vehicle intervention. The maneuver sent the suspect vehicle off the roadway and into a ditch, where it overturned.
Laster then removed Ross from the overturned vehicle, placed him in handcuffs and turned him over to the trooper who performed the intervention. Ross was taken to St. Bernards Medical Center for a medical evaluation.
Ross Wanted In Tennessee Murder Case
Police said Ross had outstanding felony warrants from Tennessee and was wanted for full extradition. The department identified him as facing a first-degree murder charge, two counts of felony weapon possession and a felony firearm-violence charge involving deadly force.
The police account did not provide details about the Tennessee homicide case or say when Ross would be returned there. The listed charges are allegations, and any future court proceedings will determine how the case moves forward.
Trumann police credited Marion and Poinsett County authorities, Craighead County officials, Arkansas State Police, the department’s dispatcher and the officers involved for helping bring the pursuit to what they described as a safe conclusion.
