The City of Palm Springs is in the middle of a $45 million project to widen North Indian Canyon Drive to six lanes over the Union Pacific Railroad bridge, paired with an 8,900-foot sewer project along the same stretch that was scheduled to run through May 2026, according to city documents. Separately, the California Transportation Commission awarded $50 million on December 7, 2023, toward two permanent bridges over low-water wash crossings along Indian Canyon Drive, intended to stop the hazardous sandstorm and flood closures that have plagued the route, as the Coachella Valley Independent reported.
