A 34-year-old woman was shot multiple times outside a home on Hollywood Avenue in Throggs Neck Monday night, and the gunman remains on the run as police comb the quiet Bronx block for answers. Police responded to 507 Hollywood Ave. at around 10:09 p.m. and found the woman suffering from gunshot wounds to her left arm and buttocks, according to police.
The victim was rushed to Jacobi Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition, as reported by News 12 Bronx. Jacobi, located on Pelham Parkway in the Morris Park section of the Bronx, operates a Level 1 Trauma Center that handles more than 100,000 emergency department visits a year, according to NYC Health + Hospitals, making it the go-to facility for serious trauma cases across the North Bronx.
Sources close to the investigation told the station that the shooter, described as a man wearing a black sweatshirt, fled the scene in a gray SUV. Neighbors claimed multiple bullet holes were found throughout a vehicle at the scene, and citizen video captured police tape blocking off the front of the home. A black car remained parked in the driveway with the driver's-side door left open, though what role, if any, that vehicle played in the shooting has not been detailed.
What Police Still Don't Know
Investigators have not confirmed whether the victim and the gunman knew each other, nor have they determined a motive for the shooting. Those open questions leave the community without a clear sense of whether the attack was targeted or random, a distinction that matters greatly on a block of mostly single-family and two-family homes.
The shooting falls under the jurisdiction of the NYPD's 45th Precinct, which is headquartered at 2877 Barkley Ave. and is geographically the largest precinct in the Bronx, stretching across six square miles of land and more than 10 miles of waterfront from Co-op City down through Pelham Bay, Country Club, City Island, and Throggs Neck, according to the Norwood News. That sprawling territory serves more than 100,000 residents across a mix of coastal and residential communities.
A Neighborhood With a Violent Past on the Same Street
Throggs Neck is generally regarded as one of the Bronx's quieter, semi-suburban enclaves, a low-density peninsula in ZIP code 10465 lined with brick homes and co-ops along the East River and Long Island Sound. But the Hollywood Avenue block has seen serious violence before: on January 1, 2015, an 87-year-old woman was killed and three others were injured at 633 Hollywood Avenue during a domestic attack that ended in a 90-minute police standoff, according to the Norwood News.
Crime data suggests the 45th Precinct has grown less quiet in recent years. Major crimes there rose 11.27% year-over-year in 2025, reaching 1,984 reported incidents, driven in part by a 233% jump in homicides compared to 2024, per NYPD CompStat figures cited by Best in the Bronx. The precinct's third homicide of 2025 came in April of that year, when 24-year-old Jermy Ortega was fatally shot outside his Throggs Neck home, a case that later led federal prosecutors to charge a neighbor accused of using a GPS tracker to hunt him down.
Possible Charges if the Gunman Is Caught
If the shooter is identified and arrested, New York law provides for steep penalties tied to gun violence. Under Penal Law § 265.03, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree is a Class C violent felony carrying a mandatory minimum of 3.5 years and up to 15 years in state prison for carrying a loaded firearm outside one's home or business, according to Tully Legal. Prosecutors could also pursue Assault in the First Degree under Penal Law § 120.10, a Class B violent felony punishable by 5 to 25 years in prison when a person intentionally causes serious physical injury with a deadly weapon, per the Greenwald Law Firm.
