Police said both victims were rushed to hospitals and are expected to recover.
Surveillance footage captured the moment a gunman opened fire near the elevated station, according to News12 Bronx, which first reported the shooting. Officers responded by blocking off the area with crime scene tape and searching for evidence at the scene, the outlet reported. Police had not released additional information about a possible suspect or motive as of Thursday night, per the same account.
The station sits at the intersection of East Tremont Avenue and Boston Road, an elevated stop served by the 2 and 5 lines that anchors a heavily trafficked commercial stretch of West Farms, according to transit data from Moovit. The area has a history of violence tied to its foot traffic: federal court records published by the U.S. Department of Justice detail a prior conviction stemming from a shooting targeting rival drug dealers outside a convenience store adjacent to the same station entrance.
A Precinct Under New Command, and New Scrutiny
Thursday's shooting falls within the jurisdiction of the NYPD's 48th Precinct, which in May 2026 became the headquarters of the newly created Patrol Borough Bronx North command overseeing Belmont, East Tremont, and West Farms, according to Norwood News. The precinct's stationhouse sits at 450 Cross Bronx Expressway in East Tremont, near the southern edge of the territory it patrols.
The 48th Precinct has previously logged the fourth-highest overall crime rate per capita among Bronx precincts, at 33 reported crimes per 1,000 residents, according to 2024 NYPD statistics cited by the Bronx Times. That same year, the precinct became the first in the Bronx to receive first-responder drones designed to reach emergency scenes, including active shootings, more quickly, the Bronx Times reported.
Local Numbers Diverge From Citywide Trend
The shooting comes even as citywide crime statistics have trended sharply downward. Data released by the NYPD in November 2025 showed New York City had reached historic lows in shooting incidents and shooting victims through the first ten months of that year, alongside record-low monthly subway transit crime, according to The Chief. Thursday's shooting is at least the fourth violent incident Hoodline has covered in the West Farms and East Tremont corridor in recent weeks. Just days earlier, a gunman opened fire near East 181st Street in the same precinct, and a Bronx subway rider was slashed on the East 180th Street platform just over a week before that. In late July, a 23-year-old man was shot in the eye and groin on a nearby West Farms street, and shots were fired near Belmont Avenue and East Tremont Avenue in early July as police hunted four men in white T-shirts.
It remains unclear whether Thursday's victims were targeted or caught in an indiscriminate dispute, and police have not said whether surveillance footage from the elevated station or nearby businesses has yielded a suspect description. Anyone with information has not yet been given a tip line to call, as police said they had no additional information to release Thursday night.
