Two men are recovering after being stabbed on a Bayside street in the middle of the night, with NYPD detectives now hunting two suspects who sped off on a two-wheeled vehicle. The attack happened around 12:28 a.m. near 40-04 201st Street, leaving a 52-year-old man and a 23-year-old man with multiple wounds before both suspects fled south on 201st Street.
According to PIX11, the 52-year-old victim was stabbed in the right knee and slashed in the abdomen, while the 23-year-old was stabbed in the head area, lower back, and right shoulder. Police say both men were taken to a local hospital, where they were listed in stable condition. The outlet reports that the first suspect was reportedly wearing a dark shirt and blue jeans, while the second suspect was reportedly wearing all black along with a helmet.
The location sits within the jurisdiction of the NYPD's 111th Precinct, which patrols Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck, Auburndale, Hollis Hills and Fresh Meadows from its headquarters at 45-06 215th Street. That command has historically ranked among the safest police precincts in New York City, maintaining some of the lowest per-capita violent crime and robbery rates across the five boroughs, as Hoodline has previously reported. A predawn double stabbing stands out sharply against that backdrop.
A Pattern of Late-Night Violence Along Bayside's Corridors
This is not the neighborhood's first brush with a violent, fast-fleeing attack this year. On July 22, an off-duty NYPD officer was stabbed in the hand during an early-morning verbal dispute outside businesses on Bell Boulevard, after which two suspects fled the area. Weeks before that, on June 12, a fatal stabbing broke out during a large brawl at Little Bay Park, after which nearly 20 participants scattered from the scene on mopeds.
The suspects' reported two-wheeled getaway in the latest attack echoes a citywide problem NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch has been targeting all year. Tisch announced in May that officers had seized more than 5,700 illegal mopeds and motorized scooters citywide since January, aiming at unregistered vehicles frequently used to commit violent crimes and make quick escapes. Under New York Penal Law § 120.05(2), intentionally causing physical injury with a knife or other deadly weapon is charged as Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D violent felony carrying up to seven years in state prison. Because two attackers allegedly acted together, prosecutors could also pursue Gang Assault charges under Penal Law § 120.06 and § 120.07, Class C and Class B violent felonies that do not require any formal gang affiliation, according to the Law Office of Matthew Galluzzo, PLLC.
Felony Assaults Keep Climbing Even as Other Violent Crime Falls
The Bayside stabbing also lands amid a broader citywide trend. NYPD CompStat figures for the week ending August 23 showed felony assaults citywide had reached 19,528 year-to-date, a 0.5% increase over the same period in 2025. A midyear crime analysis published by Vital City in July found that felony assaults in New York City have risen for six straight years, standing out as an exception to multi-year declines in homicides and shooting incidents.
