Two men were wounded Friday afternoon when gunfire erupted on a West Garfield Park sidewalk, leaving one victim in critical condition. The shooting involved four people who climbed out of a white sedan and opened fire before fleeing west on Monroe Street.
The victims, ages 30 and 36, were standing in the 4400 block of West Monroe Street around 4:25 p.m., according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The 30-year-old was shot in the thigh and calf and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition, while the 36-year-old suffered eight gunshot wounds and transported himself to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
Another Shooting On A Troubled West Garfield Park Block
The attack landed on a stretch of Monroe Street that has seen deadly violence before. Hoodline reported in April that a 30-year-old man was fatally shot on a porch in the same 4400 block.
Police said the shooters were last seen driving west on Monroe. The initial report did not identify a motive or announce any arrests, leaving detectives to piece together what led to the afternoon ambush, as detailed by the Sun-Times.
