Woman Drives Into Crowd Near Roselawn Shell Station, Cincinnati Police Hunt Driver

A woman is being sought by Cincinnati police after she allegedly drove a vehicle into a crowd near a Shell gas station on East Seymour Avenue in Roselawn on Wednesday night, sending one person to the hospital. The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. near the gas station, according to police, and the injured victim was reported to have non-life-threatening injuries.

According to WKRC, police say the female driver hit one person after driving into the crowd, and the victim was taken to the hospital following the strike. No suspect has been publicly identified, and the station's report does not detail what led up to the encounter or whether the driver remained at the scene before fleeing.

A Corridor Built Around Foot Traffic

The stretch of East Seymour Avenue where the incident occurred sits within Cincinnati Police Department District 4, which is based at 4150 Reading Road and led by Capt. Danita Pettis, overseeing 11 central-east neighborhoods, according to the City of Cincinnati. That jurisdiction places the case with detectives already familiar with the area's mix of retail, recreation, and residential traffic.

East Seymour Avenue functions as a major neighborhood hub, home to Roselawn Park, the Cincinnati Reds Youth Academy, and the area's only full-service Save A Lot grocery store, per Green Umbrella. That concentration of community anchors helps explain why a crowd would have gathered along the corridor on a Wednesday evening.

What Charges Could Follow

The legal exposure facing the driver, once identified, will hinge on what investigators determine about intent. Ohio law treats a vehicle used deliberately to strike pedestrians as a deadly weapon, and intentionally or knowingly driving into a crowd can be prosecuted as felonious assault, a second-degree felony carrying two to eight years in prison, according to Zukerman Law.

If the driving is instead found to have been reckless rather than intentional, Ohio Revised Code 2903.08 classifies causing serious physical harm to a pedestrian as vehicular assault, a fourth-degree felony. Doing so while impaired by drugs or alcohol escalates the charge to aggravated vehicular assault, a third-degree felony carrying a mandatory prison term of one to five years, the same firm notes.

Separately, if the driver left the scene without stopping, Ohio law requires drivers involved in a collision to remain and exchange information, and fleeing a crash that causes serious injury can elevate hit-and-run charges to a felony, according to Smith Law. It remains unclear from available reporting whether the driver fled immediately or what, if anything, prompted the confrontation.

Cameras and a Pattern of Nearby Incidents

District 4 investigators have tools available to help track down the vehicle, including SoundThinking's ShotSpotter acoustic detection system and the city's voluntary Connect Cincinnati camera registry, which lets detectives request private security footage from nearby gas stations and businesses, Hoodline has previously reported. Whether footage from the Shell station itself has aided the search has not been disclosed.

This is not the first public safety incident along the corridor. In July, a daylight shooting outside the nearby Save A Lot grocery store left a shopper injured, underscoring how commercial parking lots along East Seymour Avenue have repeatedly drawn police attention and community concern. The neighborhood has also seen investment in recent months, including greenhouse manufacturer Prospiant Inc.'s opening of a 60,000-square-foot facility on Shona Drive that consolidated 125 manufacturing jobs backed by an eight-year municipal tax incentive.

Police have not released a description of the suspect vehicle or the driver beyond identifying her as female.
