A largely untouched stretch of land just east of downtown Batavia could soon be transformed into a sprawling mixed-use development, complete with new housing and a grocery store, as annexation efforts move forward to bring the property into the village of Batavia.
The project site spans 104.7 acres on the south side of Ohio State Route 32, about one mile east of downtown Batavia, according to Local 12 News. The land currently sits in Batavia Township and is described as almost entirely undeveloped. It's bounded by Old State Route 32 to the south and Herold Road to the west, and a residential street separates the property from the Batavia Local Schools campus, which houses the district's elementary, middle and high schools.
The station's report notes that annexation efforts are underway to bring the property into the village of Batavia. The development is envisioned to include significant new housing alongside a grocery store.
Part of a Fast-Growing Corridor
The proposal is described as moving forward along a major Cincinnati-region development corridor, per the same account, as Clermont County continues to rank among Ohio's fastest-growing counties.
The proposed development is a large-scale project. Clermont County Planning, a division of the county's Department of Community and Economic Development, is tasked with planning, reviewing and approving development within the county. Meanwhile, water and sewer infrastructure for large-scale projects typically falls under the purview of the county's Engineering Division, part of the Water Resources Department, which handles the design, construction and administration of countywide capital improvements.
For now, the picture remains that of a large, mostly empty tract just steps from a school campus, positioned along a growth corridor with annexation efforts underway.
