Twelve teenagers were shot at Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon, Georgia, just after midnight Sunday, in a burst of violence that left two of the wounded in critical condition and sent panicked friends and family racing to a nearby hospital. The victims ranged from 17 to 18 years old, and hospital workers said nine of them had been stabilized.

According to FOX 5 DC, 12 teenagers were shot. The wounded included five 17-year-old boys, four 18-year-old men and two 18-year-old women, with their ages and genders confirmed per the Bibb County Sheriff's Office. Macon sits roughly an hour and a half southeast of Atlanta, and the shooting there has left investigators piecing together what happened at the park with no public explanation yet of what sparked the gunfire.

No Motive, No Arrests as Investigation Continues

Authorities have released no information about what led to the shooting, and investigators have detailed no potential motive, the outlet's report states. No arrests had been made in connection with the shooting as of the report, and the sheriff's office has not released the names of anyone involved. Investigators also have not released information about who may have fired first.

The scene at the park was chaotic in its immediate aftermath. Some victims arrived at a local medical facility in personal vehicles rather than waiting for ambulances, according to the same account, and friends and family soon flooded the area around the hospital as word spread. Hospital staff taped off the surrounding area and initiated a lockdown for the emergency room as the situation unfolded.

Evidence Collection and Witness Interviews Underway

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office sent seven vehicles to the crime lab as part of the investigation — four that had been used to bring victims to the hospital, and three that remained at the park itself. Investigators identified 10 potential witnesses, who were taken to the Criminal Investigation Division for interviews, the report notes.

The investigation remains underway, and investigators are asking anyone with information to call the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at 478-751-7500. Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can also reach Macon Regional Crime Stoppers, which accepts anonymous tips.

A County That Had Been Reporting Fewer Homicides

The shooting comes against a backdrop of declining homicides in Macon-Bibb County. Mayor Lester Miller told Police1.com that the county recorded 71 homicides in 2022, 40 in 2023 and 39 in 2024, a stretch during which the homicide rate dropped 2.5% from 2023 to 2024 alone. Homicides of people younger than 18 fell even more sharply over that same period, from 15 in 2022 to five in 2023 and just two in 2024, per the same report.

County officials had credited part of that decline to AI policing programs and youth outreach. The county had roughly 150 Flock Safety cameras installed across the county and about 500 Verkada cameras covering downtown Macon and public housing properties, according to Sheriff David Davis. The district attorney's office also began using ShotSpotter gunfire-detection technology for the first time in August 2024, the outlet reported. Bibb County investigators have not said whether any of those tools played a role in Sunday's shooting at Carolyn Crayton Park.
