According to City of Houston News, officers responded to a report of a person down at the location and attempted to perform first aid before Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Homicide Division Sergeant C. Lafour and Detective K. Jumonji reported the circumstances of the death, which is being tracked under incident number 119968426. Houston Police Department protocols call for Homicide Division detectives to preliminarily respond to and process unattended death scenes whenever potential criminal activity cannot be immediately ruled out, regardless of whether initial officers detect trauma, per Hoodline's earlier reporting on a similar bayou case.

The man's identity and cause of death remain pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, the report notes. That requirement isn't optional: Article 49.25 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure mandates that county medical examiners investigate every sudden, unexpected, or unattended death within their jurisdiction, regardless of whether physical trauma is initially apparent, according to FindLaw.
Texas medical examiner examinations generally take up to 24 hours, per Denton County's published guidance. Metrics released by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences show an average turnaround time of 47 days for drug toxicology testing, while homicide case DNA testing averages 87 days, according to Harris County data.

A separate unattended death investigation occurred Monday, when Houston Police responded to the 3800 block of Searle Drive near Trimble Street and a male body showing no obvious signs of trauma was pulled from Little Whiteoak Bayou and sent to the medical examiner for autopsy, the Houston Chronicle reported.
Days earlier, on September 18, officers responded to 2602 Winbern Street after skeletal remains were discovered, adding to a series of pending forensic identification cases handled by Harris County medical examiners that month, per the City of Houston.
