Travelers flying out of Everett's Paine Field are about to get a lot more options. Alaska Airlines is expanding its West Coast network at the airport, adding a brand-new nonstop route to San Jose and boosting capacity on several existing routes over the next several months.
The centerpiece of the expansion is a new twice-daily nonstop service between Paine Field and San Jose, California, set to launch April 14, 2027, according to Fox 13 Seattle. The route will be flown year-round by regional subsidiary Horizon Air using 76-seat Embraer E175 aircraft, the station reports.
San Jose isn't the only destination getting a boost. The outlet notes that Alaska is expanding its Los Angeles service to twice daily, with both flights shifting to larger mainline Boeing 737 jets — a notable upgrade from the smaller regional planes typically associated with Paine Field routes.
More Seats Across the West Coast
Portland service is also growing, with Alaska expanding to two daily flights there, per the same report. Meanwhile, the airline is adding overall seating capacity on its San Diego and San Francisco routes out of Everett, though specific schedule or frequency details for those two routes haven't been detailed yet.
The rollout won't happen all at once. Expanded seating capacity will arrive gradually starting this fall, according to the station's report, culminating with the San Jose route launch in spring 2027. Alaska is projected to increase total departing seats from Everett by 50% between fall 2026 and summer 2027.
Airport Leadership Points to Demand
Brett Smith, chief executive officer of Propeller Airports, which operates the Paine Field terminal, framed the expansion as a response to traveler interest. Smith said Alaska's expanded service reflects strong demand for more convenient air service from Paine Field, the report states.
Alaska Airlines will post updated flight schedules and additional booking windows on its official booking channels as dates are finalized, according to the same report. Tickets for the new San Jose route are already being sold through alaskaair.com.
Part of a Broader Pattern of Growth
The Everett expansion follows a string of route additions across Alaska's network. A Puget Sound Business Journal report referenced Alaska Airlines Embraer 175 jets at Paine Field and noted the carrier had added two new domestic routes from Sea-Tac Airport. Separately, Travel Codex reported that Alaska added seven routes from Anchorage and Portland, with launches planned for March and June 2026.
Paine Field has seen its share of turbulence among carriers in recent years, too.
