Ancho & Agave has closed its Lee's Summit restaurant at the Summit Fair shopping center, located at 860a NW Blue Valley Parkway near U.S. 50 Highway and Chipman Road, just weeks before the location would have marked its first anniversary. The Mexican chain's owners said the closure is permanent, and the restaurant was the only Ancho & Agave location in Missouri.

The restaurant opened at the tail end of last year, according to kansascity.com, meaning it lasted less than 12 months before shutting down. A social media announcement from the chain did not explain why the location closed, and the Lee's Summit spot is no longer listed on Ancho & Agave's own website.

What Happens to Unused Gift Cards

Ancho & Agave says it will honor gift cards at any of its remaining locations, and gift cards will still be valid there even though the Lee's Summit restaurant is gone. But for customers who can't easily travel out of state to spend their balance, the chain's corporate office is issuing full refunds instead.

To request one, customers must email [email protected] and include their full name, gift card number, mailing address and phone number. That process, laid out by the same kansascity.com report, appears to be the only way to claim a refund rather than travel to another state to use the card.

Where the Chain's Remaining Restaurants Are Located

With the Lee's Summit closure, the Illinois-based chain still has six locations nationally, spread across Illinois, Wisconsin and Nebraska. According to Ancho & Agave's own locations page, those restaurants are in Bloomington, Deer Park, Lombard and Naperville, Illinois; Middleton, Wisconsin; and Omaha, Nebraska.

For Lee's Summit customers looking to actually dine at another Ancho & Agave rather than seek a refund, the closest option is the Omaha restaurant, per kansascity.com's reporting. With Missouri's only location now closed, area fans of the chain are left choosing between a refund request or a trip across state lines.
