An armed suspect surrendered peacefully Thursday after barricading himself inside a Conyers home with a disabled woman, ending an hours-long standoff that began when deputies tried to serve an active arrest warrant. The confrontation unfolded on the 1600 block of Woodcrest Drive, and it ended with the woman rescued unharmed and the suspect in custody without anyone getting hurt.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Rockdale County deputies spotted the suspect while attempting to serve the warrant, and he ran into the home rather than comply. Once inside, he barricaded himself with a woman who lived there and who has a disability, refusing repeated requests from deputies to let her go. The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office said the suspect had refused to surrender during the warrant attempt before taking that step.
SWAT and Negotiators Called to the Scene
The sheriff's office deployed its SWAT unit and a negotiation team to the residence, according to the same report. Negotiators held extended talks with the suspect over the course of the standoff, working to convince him to give himself up without forcing entry into the home. That approach eventually paid off: authorities removed the woman safely from the home, and she was confirmed unharmed once out of danger.
The suspect ultimately surrendered peacefully, with no further incidents reported. The sheriff's office has not released the suspect's name or age, nor has it specified the charges tied to the original warrant or any additional charges that may stem from the standoff itself.

In December 2025, an inmate escaped the agency's custody at a hospital after a deputy failed to re-apply restraints following an X-ray, triggering a three-day, multi-agency search across metro Atlanta before the suspect, who allegedly stole two vehicles during the escape, was recaptured, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
