Sweetwater Brewing Company is rolling out a new beer this week with a mission behind every pour. The Atlanta brewery is releasing Hooked on Hope, with a portion of proceeds from every purchase going to Casting for Recovery Georgia throughout October.
Casting for Recovery Georgia is a nonprofit that provides free, no-cost fly-fishing retreats for women with breast cancer, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. The organization holds these retreats at no cost to participants, and they are typically open to women at any stage of treatment or recovery. Fly casting itself is used as a form of physical therapy during the retreats, blending a day on the water with recovery support.
Casting for Recovery Georgia will host its 22nd retreat in November in Helen, per the same report. Sweetwater Brewing Company has partnered with the nonprofit on the Hooked on Hope release, tying a locally brewed beer directly to the group's mission of getting women out on the water.
Launch Party Set for Thursday at Sweetwater's Atlanta Taproom
Sweetwater will host a Hooked on Hope launch party Thursday at its Atlanta Taproom and Kitchen, located at 195 Ottley Drive Northeast. The event kicks off with a family-friendly happy hour running from 4:20 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the station notes.
The celebration also includes a fly-fishing film festival, with tickets priced at $20. Proceeds from those film festival tickets will support the Casting for Recovery Georgia program, giving attendees a second way to contribute beyond simply buying a beer.
The story was reported for Good Day Atlanta, which noted its morning visit to Sweetwater Brewing Company as part of the coverage. Reporter Paul Milliken provided the original reporting, and Casting for Recovery Georgia publicity materials contributed information used in the piece.
Part of a Broader Pattern of Charity Brews
Sweetwater's effort echoes a wider trend of breweries tying beer sales to breast cancer causes. Separately, outandaboutnow.com has reported that a Georgia-based brewery donates $1 for every case sold of a wheat beer to Casting For Recovery, describing the organization's use of fly fishing as therapy for women recovering from breast cancer treatment.
Other breweries around the country have run similar campaigns tied to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Trophy Brewing's Pretty In Pink Brew, for instance, has directed proceeds from every pint sold in October to the Pretty In Pink Foundation to help cover costs for breast cancer patients needing treatment.
For Atlanta-area beer drinkers, Hooked on Hope offers a local way to join that broader effort, with Thursday's launch party marking the public kickoff of the campaign at Sweetwater's own taproom.
