A driver crashed into a utility pole on Oak Ridge Drive in Ayer Wednesday night, toppling the pole and leaving more than 100 customers without power. The driver was hospitalized after the crash and remains in unknown condition.
According to Boston 25 News, police said the driver lost consciousness before the crash occurred. The driver was taken to Leominster Hospital following the collision, and their condition had not been made public as of the report.

The impact brought down the utility pole entirely, according to the same report, cutting electricity to more than 100 customers in the area. No additional details on the extent of road impacts or how long repairs might take were available at the time of the report.
Crashes involving utility poles have knocked out power for residents in other communities in recent months. In Blackwood, New Jersey, a suspected intoxicated driver hit a pole and left about 400 residents without electricity, per an NBC Philadelphia report. A similar incident in Harnett County, North Carolina, saw a driver strike a transmission tower and cut power to more than 1,000 customers, as WRAL reported.
