Baltimore Police are asking the public to help locate 82-year-old Jerry Walker, a vulnerable adult living with dementia who was last seen Friday afternoon in the 2700 block of Orleans Street in East Baltimore. He was seen around 3:30 p.m. wearing a black shirt, red and black pajama pants, and red, black and white slippers. As of Sunday, he had not been found.

, detectives are treating Walker's disappearance as a case involving a missing vulnerable adult. The department urged anyone with information to contact detectives at 410-361-9929 or call 911. For urgent sightings, people should reach out to detectives or dial 911 directly rather than relying on a social media reply.
The 2700 block of Orleans Street is identified in a Zillow property listing. It's a high-traffic thoroughfare connecting several East Baltimore neighborhoods, which widens the radius investigators and residents alike may need to search.
Why Dementia Cases Demand a Fast Response
Cases like Walker's carry a particular urgency because of how dementia affects a person's sense of direction and awareness of danger. The Alzheimer's Association reports that six out of ten people living with dementia will wander away from safety at least once, and up to half of those who remain missing for more than 24 hours face a risk of serious injury or death. The danger can increase as time passes.
A Baltimore Police policy requires immediate classification of missing individuals with diminished mental capacity as missing vulnerable adults. State law reinforces that urgency: Maryland has no mandatory waiting period before a missing-person report is accepted.
Statewide Alerts Could Widen the Search
Maryland also maintains broader tools for cases like this one. Under Public Safety Code ยง 3-604, Maryland has a statewide Silver Alert Program. Silver Alert notices may also appear on highway message boards. It is not clear from the department's post whether a Silver Alert has been activated in Walker's case.
Walker's disappearance adds to a string of recent searches for missing older adults across the Baltimore region. Hoodline has reported on a days-long search for a missing Northeast Baltimore man that ended safely, as well as a separate search for a 75-year-old South Baltimore resident who vanished from Hanover Street and was later found. Baltimore's Department of Transportation has also begun concept planning for the Orleans Street Rehabilitation Project, aimed at improving pedestrian infrastructure and traffic safety along the corridor between North Wolfe Street and North Ellwood Avenue, according to Streets of Baltimore.
