The blaze was reported around 10:30 a.m. on the 200 block of South Rexford Drive, directly across the street from Beverly Vista Middle School.
Firefighters brought the fire under control after flames burned through the building's attic and caused the roof to partially cave in, according to Times Now, which reported that flames burned through the roof before the structural breakdown occurred. NBC Los Angeles reported that a ladder truck sprayed water onto the fire as crews worked to knock it down, and the outlet noted that the cause of the fire was not immediately available.
It also was not immediately clear whether anyone was inside the apartment complex when the fire broke out, per the same NBC Los Angeles report. NBC Los Angeles did not say whether it would continue updating the story.

Beverly Vista Middle School, the sole public middle school serving the Beverly Hills Unified School District, sits directly across from the burning building, though the campus itself was not affected by the fire. Not the First Major Fire on the Corridor
The Rexford Drive corridor has seen large multi-agency responses before. In November 2022, more than 40 firefighters from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, and L.A. County Fire responded to a major residential garage fire on North Rexford Drive that consumed two vehicles and filled a home with smoke, according to the Beverly Press, which reported that crews had to cut through structural doors and undertake intensive ventilation work.
The 200 block of South Rexford Drive is lined with a mix of mid-century multi-family apartment complexes and residential properties south of Wilshire Boulevard, according to Redfin.
