National Democrats are looking to invest in the race, a rare move, according to The Oklahoman.
A District Republicans Have Held Since 2020
Bice, a Republican, won reelection in the 5th District in 2024, according to The Washington Post. She cruised through this year's primary without a Republican challenger, and NBC News reported the June contest was uncontested, with Bice winning outright. Nelson, meanwhile, filed for the seat before the contested Democratic primary.
Republicans recaptured the seat in 2020 when Bice defeated incumbent Kendra Horn, and Bice was reelected in 2024.
Competing Polls Paint Different Pictures
A survey released by Nelson's campaign in July claimed she led Bice by four points among 868 likely voters surveyed July 9-10, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
Prediction markets also tracked the race in April.
What the Potential Investment Signals
The prospect of national Democratic investment adds a new element to the race in a district Republicans have held since 2020.
