A Heat Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m., and this is only the opening act of a stretch expected to keep the city near 100 through the weekend.
Heat Builds Through The Afternoon
Sunny skies and light south-southeast winds around 5 mph will do little to blunt the heat. The National Weather Service says near-record to record temperatures will continue through the weekend, with little rainfall expected during the hottest stretch.
Overnight relief will be limited, with lows generally in the upper 70s. Rain chances remain near zero through Sunday, so outdoor plans will call for shade, water and reliable access to air conditioning.
A Small Break Arrives Next Week
Monday brings a slight shift, with a high near 97 and a 20% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Tuesday looks a little cooler at 92, with a 30% chance of storms after 1 p.m., though that is not a full reset from the heat.
Residents should drink plenty of fluids, avoid prolonged time in the afternoon sun, and check on older adults, children, neighbors and pets. The advisory is in place because hot temperatures and humidity can cause heat illness even when skies stay bright and rain stays away.
