Deputies are asking the public for help identifying a vehicle connected to a drive-by shooting on Pratt Drive in Boiling Springs, a fast-growing Spartanburg County community that relies entirely on county law enforcement rather than a local police force. The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says it is trying to track down not only the car but the people inside it who were involved in the shooting.
According to FOX Carolina News, investigators are working to identify both the suspect vehicle and the individuals inside it. The outlet's report, published Tuesday, did not specify whether any homes or people on Pratt Drive were struck by gunfire, nor has a possible motive been disclosed.

The shooting also comes as South Carolina lawmakers have sharpened the legal consequences for this type of crime. In May, the state legislature enacted House Bill 3650, known as Act 138, amending state law to create a tiered penalty structure for discharging firearms into dwellings or occupied vehicles and formally classifying the offense as a statutory violent crime. Unlawful discharge into occupied property had previously carried up to ten years in prison under South Carolina law.
