Spartanburg County Sheriff's deputies were called to the address late Thursday night, according to FOX Carolina News. A person was found there suffering from a gunshot wound, per deputies, and later died from the shooting. Because Boiling Springs is an unincorporated census-designated place, primary law enforcement jurisdiction rests entirely with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office rather than a municipal police department, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. There is no city police force to call on in the community, which sits along the S.C. Highway 9 corridor and has grown by 26.6 percent over the past decade, expanding from 8,219 residents to 10,405 residents, per the Census Bureau. That rapid growth has made Boiling Springs one of the fastest-growing suburban areas in northern Spartanburg County.
A Corridor With a History of Gun Violence
Thursday night's shooting is not the first fatal incident along this stretch of road. On December 4, 2023, local anti-violence organizer LaBrian Beasley was fatally shot inside his vehicle along Boiling Springs Road near California Avenue, according to FOX Carolina News.
The area has also seen other recent gunfire. On August 27, deputies investigated a drive-by shooting on nearby Pratt Drive in Boiling Springs, though the report did not specify whether homes or people on Pratt Drive were struck by gunfire, as Hoodline previously reported. Investigators in that case appealed to the public for help identifying a getaway vehicle, and no arrests had been announced as of that report.
