Cape Coral police say they tracked down a Fort Myers man wanted in Louisiana on dozens of felony child exploitation charges, arresting him last week at a retail store on Del Prado Boulevard South. Timothy Dalton Barnes, born December 29, 1994, was taken into custody on September 22 and now sits in the Lee County Jail awaiting extradition.
According to the Cape Coral Police Department, Barnes was wanted on an outstanding, full-extradition warrant issued out of Louisiana. Officers made contact with him at a retail location at 1619 Del Prado Boulevard South in Cape Coral, the department said, and confirmed his identification before taking him into custody on the active warrant from the Louisiana State Police.
Warrant Details Dozens of Felony Counts
The Louisiana State Police warrant against Barnes lists 27 counts of production of child sexual abuse material involving children under the age of 13, along with one count of computer-aided solicitation of a minor and one count of indecent behavior with juveniles, per the department's account. Under the Louisiana statute governing that solicitation charge, the offense applies when someone age 17 or older knowingly uses electronic textual communication to contact a person under 17 with intent to persuade, induce, entice or coerce that person into sexual conduct or a crime of violence, according to the Louisiana State Legislature.
Locating Barnes took coordinated effort across agencies and state lines. The Cape Coral Police Department's Special Investigations Unit and Patrol Division were mobilized to find him, according to WINK News, and a Cape Coral Police Department FBI Task Force Officer was contacted by the FBI New Orleans Field Office about his whereabouts.
Held Pending Extradition
Barnes was transported to the Lee County Jail, where the police department says he remains held pending extradition to Louisiana. A booking listing reviewed by mugshots.zone shows him arrested in Lee County on an out-of-state fugitive warrant of extradition, with bond not set.
Cape Coral police credited the FBI New Orleans Field Office, the local FBI task force and the Louisiana State Police with partnership and assistance in the case, the department said in its statement announcing the arrest.
