A vehicle slammed into the Tesla Store and Service Center at 4330 SW Macadam Ave. in South Portland at high speed Monday afternoon, and three occupants were being rushed to the hospital for what officials described as elevated medical care. The full extent of the injuries remained unclear in the immediate aftermath of the crash.
Portland Fire & Rescue said crews were on scene after the vehicle entered the dealership building at high speed, according to a post from the agency's Portland Fire & Rescue account. The bureau reported that the level of injury was unknown at the time of the alert and noted that its account is not monitored around the clock, a standard caveat the agency includes during active incident updates.
The dealership sits along SW Macadam Avenue, a heavily traveled multi-lane arterial on the west side of the Willamette River near the South Waterfront district. The property was redeveloped between 2016 and 2017 to house the Tesla facility, a project that also brought a riverfront multi-use path along the river, according to BikePortland. The location functions as both a retail showroom and a primary service center for the Portland metro area.
A Dealership With a High Public Profile
The Macadam Avenue store has drawn attention before, though not for crashes. In March 2025, roughly 300 demonstrators gathered outside the dealership during an organized rally, lining both sides of the roadway during afternoon peak commuting hours, the Portland Mercury reported. A month earlier, in April 2025, Portland police arrested a suspect after employees inside the dealership were targeted with a green laser during a separate demonstration outside the building, per court filings detailed by KOIN.
The dealership had also been scheduled to host a series of public Full Self-Driving Supervised workshops running from late August through September, with sessions planned for August 26, September 9 and September 23, according to information posted by Tesla.

Monday's crash adds to a run of serious Tesla-involved incidents in the region this year. Portland police used spike strips last month to halt a fleeing Tesla sedan in the Buckman neighborhood, a chase that ended in a crash, four arrests, and the seizure of five firearms, as Hoodline reported. Earlier this month, a Tesla Model S was involved in a multi-car pileup on Highway 26 near Portland that killed one person and hospitalized eight others, closing the highway for roughly five hours, according to Oregon State Police.
High-speed impacts that involve electric vehicles striking structures carry their own set of hazards for first responders. Lithium-ion battery fires can require more than 20,000 gallons of water and extensive cooling compared with standard vehicle fires, Oregon Public Broadcasting has reported, and Oregon fire departments have developed specific protocols for battery thermal runaway as a result.
