A car crashed straight through the front of Divine Design Nailz on Salt Lick Road in St. Peters Wednesday night, shattering the salon's front windows but leaving everyone inside unharmed. Surveillance video captured the moment the vehicle plowed into the building, and salon owner Kelly Wilke says the car was carrying a woman and her older daughter at the time of impact.
Wilke said the incident happened Wednesday night, and that the driver seems to have hit the gas instead of the brake, according to KMOV. In a post on social media, Wilke confirmed that no staff or customers were injured in the crash and said the salon would remain open while it waited on replacement glass for its damaged front windows.

Divine Design Nailz is a salon on the Salt Lick Road commercial corridor in St. Peters. According to the City of St. Peters, the salon was listed at 629 Salt Lick Road in May 2026. No one inside was hurt.

The apparent cause behind Wednesday's crash — a driver mistakenly pressing the accelerator instead of the brake — is far from rare nationally. Pedal misapplication causes roughly 16,000 traffic accidents each year in the United States, or about 44 per day, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data cited by the Legal Examiner. NHTSA research also indicates that drivers under 20 and drivers over 65 experience these pedal error accidents roughly four times more often than middle-aged motorists, per the same federal data reported by Claims Journal.
Storefronts like Divine Design Nailz are frequent targets of these low-speed mistakes. Industry data compiled by the Storefront Safety Council shows that more than 100 vehicles crash into commercial storefronts, restaurants, and other non-residential buildings each day across the country, according to McNicholas Law. Those same collisions are estimated to cause approximately 16,000 injuries and more than 2,600 fatalities nationwide each year, with nearly half of all impacts resulting in personal injury, per the same source.
Pedal Error's Outsized Role in Storefront Crashes
A study conducted by Texas A&M University in partnership with the Storefront Safety Council found that pedal error alone is responsible for up to 40 percent of all vehicle crashes into commercial storefronts, Claims Journal reports.
