Carowinds is swapping roller coasters for scream zones again this year as SCarowinds returns for select nights running from September 11 through November 1. The Halloween transformation brings 17 total haunted attractions to the amusement park, which sits on the border of North Carolina and South Carolina, alongside the park's existing thrill rides.
The 2026 lineup marks an especially big swing for the annual event, according to sixflags.com, which says SCarowinds is debuting eight new experiences this season, headlined by a brand-new maze called Jason: Blood Reign. That addition helps push the event's total haunted attraction count to 17, per the same event guide. As Greenville Online notes, Carowinds transforms into SCarowinds every fall, layering scare zones, haunted mazes and live entertainment on top of the park's day-to-day rides.
Beyond the new Jason maze, The Conjuring: Beyond Fear is coming back for another run this season, described by Six Flags as returning by popular demand. That attraction isn't included with regular admission, though — it's a SCREAMium experience that requires its own reservation and separate ticketing, according to amusementtoday.com.
More Monsters, More Mazes
The Six Flags guide says more than 300 monsters roam the park this year alongside those 17 haunted attractions. The official guide lists five haunted mazes, five scare zones and six live shows in addition to the park's thrill rides.
Getting into most of those mazes requires more than just a park ticket. Six Flags says a Haunted Attractions Pass, which starts at $10, is required to enter the haunted mazes, separate from general admission. Every SCarowinds guest still needs a paid admission ticket regardless of whether they add the maze pass, the park notes.
Age Guidance and Daytime Events
The park requires guests age 15 and younger to be accompanied by a chaperone at least 21 years old daily beginning at 2 p.m. local time.
Regular admission covers more than just the after-dark scares. Per Amusement Today, ticket holders get access to all rides, live shows, scare zones, street entertainment and daytime events, including the Tricks and Treats celebration. WLOS reports that Tricks and Treats runs Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. between Sept. 12 and Nov. 1, giving families a less-terrifying daytime alternative before the mazes open after dark.
SCarowinds is located at 14523 Carowinds Blvd. in Charlotte, North Carolina, according to Six Flags. With the addition of Jason: Blood Reign and the return of The Conjuring: Beyond Fear, the park's 2026 slate leans on a mix of brand-new frights and fan-favorite attractions to fill out its run through Halloween.
