An 18-year-old man is dead after being shot multiple times outside a house party in Casa Grande early Sunday morning, and police say no suspect has been identified. Authorities were called shortly before 1:30 a.m., and officers found the victim, later identified as Joseph Castro, suffering from gunshot wounds outside a residence where a party was underway.
Castro died from his injuries, according to KTAR News, which reported the victim's identity and said authorities were called shortly before 1:30 a.m. Detective Brandon Garcia of the Casa Grande Police Department is asking anyone with credible information to contact him directly at (520) 840-3175 or by email, per the same report. No suspects had been named publicly as of the department's plea for leads.
A Familiar and Painful Pattern in Casa Grande
Sunday's shooting echoes a case that shook Casa Grande nearly three years earlier, when a teenage cheerleader was killed, as detailed by 12News.
Castro's death also arrives amid a string of violent incidents that have tested Casa Grande police in recent months. In August, a verbal dispute in a bar parking lot escalated into a fatal shooting that killed 37-year-old Jacob Encinas, leaving 21-year-old suspect Tristen Lee Alvarez at large and armed and dangerous, as Hoodline reported at the time. Just five days before Castro was killed, a 10-year-old girl was wounded in a September 14 shooting near the Casa Grande High School District office, prompting police to seek four persons of interest.
