Charlotte started Wednesday clear and close to 60 degrees, but the city is headed for a quick late-summer encore. Sunshine will push temperatures into the mid-80s today, with the warmest day of the week arriving Friday before thunderstorms and a sharp cooldown move in this weekend.
Sunny Stretch Builds Through Friday
Wednesday will stay sunny with a high near 86, followed by another bright day Thursday reaching about 88. Friday should be mostly sunny and warmer, with temperatures climbing near 90.
Winds will remain light, generally between 1 and 8 mph, so outdoor plans should be comfortable despite the heat. A slight chance of showers returns Friday night, mainly between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m., with temperatures settling around 69.
The latest outlook from the National Weather Service lists no active watches, warnings or advisories for the Charlotte area.
Weekend Rain Brings A Big Temperature Drop
Saturday brings likely rain, with possible thunderstorms. Saturday night could bring showers, with a low around 62.
Sunday looks like the wettest and coolest day of the stretch. Rain showers are likely before 2 p.m., followed by showers and thunderstorms, with an 80% chance of rain and a high near 72.
That is a more dramatic weekend turn than the earlier Charlotte forecast, which had called for a milder Saturday and less certain rain. The current forecast discussion also warns that locally heavy rainfall will be possible Saturday night into Sunday.
Cooler, Drier Weather Returns Next Week
Monday brings a 30% chance of rain showers, partly sunny skies and a high near 71, with drier conditions expected by the afternoon. Monday night could feel distinctly cooler, dropping to around 63.
Tuesday looks sunny with a high near 72 and northerly winds around 7 mph. In practical terms, Thursday and Friday are the best windows for outdoor plans, while weekend events should have an indoor backup ready.
