A Charlotte man has been convicted of repeatedly sexually assaulting a teenage girl he first met at a Shell gas station, in a case that stretched from a chance encounter in 2022 to a criminal trial that concluded this month. Erick Jamison, 42, was found guilty of statutory sex offense with a child and three counts of indecent liberties with a child, and now faces decades in prison.
According to Charlotte Alerts News, Jamison met the victim, identified as Carrie, at a Shell station in Charlotte in 2022, when she was 14 years old. The outlet reports that Jamison went on to arrange multiple meetups with Carrie, and that the assaults occurred repeatedly over a period of about a year and a half once she turned 15.
How the Assaults Came to Light
The case broke open after Carrie's mother found a journal in which her daughter had written about the assaults, the report states. That discovery ultimately led to the matter being reported to police, setting off an investigation that led to Jamison's arrest in 2023.
During questioning, Jamison admitted to detectives that he had met Carrie at the Shell gas station, according to the same account. Investigators also gathered text messages that were used as evidence against him at trial, helping build the case that led to his conviction this month.
Sentencing and an Appeal
Jamison was sentenced to two consecutive prison terms of 180 to 276 months each, for a combined total of 360 to 552 months behind bars — as much as 46 years. He must also register as a sex offender for 30 years once he is eventually released, per the report.
Jamison is now appealing the conviction, the outlet notes. Separately, a Mecklenburg County mugshot listing published by WCCB Charlotte identified Jamison as facing charges of indecent liberties with a child and felony possession, corroborating the core charges tied to the case.
