A manufacturer of power-grid hardware is packing up its U.S. headquarters and heading to north Charlotte, where it plans to build its first American factory and put 80 people to work starting later this month. Shemar Electric USA is investing $15 million into a 94,640-square-foot manufacturing facility and headquarters at 11125 Metromont Parkway, moving on from Memphis, Tennessee, where the company had been based.

The relocation was reported by the Charlotte Business Journal, which noted that Shemar Electric USA considered sites in several cities before settling on Charlotte. The outlet also reported that the company closed its Tennessee headquarters earlier in 2026. Shemar Electric USA is the North American operation of China-based Shemar Electric, according to WSOC-TV Eyewitness News Charlotte.

Per the Charlotte Business Journal, the company's chief executive, Justin Jin, said Shemar Electric USA closed its Memphis site earlier this year as part of the move. The Metromont Parkway site will serve as both the company's new headquarters and its first manufacturing facility on U.S. soil.

What Shemar Electric Actually Makes

Shemar Electric USA makes composite insulation, transmission-line components and grid-protection equipment used in substations and energy-distribution systems, the same report notes. Composite insulators are devices that prevent electrical current from flowing to the ground. The company's products are used in power-grid infrastructure.

Shemar Electric USA was founded in 1996. Its products include composite insulation, transmission-line components and grid-protection equipment for substations and energy-distribution systems.

Hiring Set to Begin This Month

The company plans to create 80 jobs in Charlotte and expects to begin hiring later in September, per the same station's report. Openings are expected across engineering, maintenance, supply chain, warehousing, technical support and business support roles.

The move will bring Shemar Electric USA to 11125 Metromont Parkway in north Charlotte. Shemar Electric is China-based, while its U.S. arm builds out its Charlotte base.
