A statewide Senior Alert is underway for 79-year-old Stanley Estredge, who was last seen around noon Tuesday walking north on foot in the 2200 block of North Nevada Avenue in Colorado Springs, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
Estredge was wearing a dark-colored collared button-down shirt, blue jeans and brown shoes. He is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, with gray hair and a mustache. Authorities said he has a cognitive impairment that could leave him lost, confused or possibly agitated, and they are concerned for his safety.
Anyone who sees Estredge should call 911 or the Colorado Springs Police Department at 719-444-7000 rather than approach him directly. The alert information provided does not include a later sighting, a reported search outcome or an explanation of where he may have gone.
A statewide resource for wandering-risk cases
Colorado has also expanded resources for people who may become lost because of cognitive conditions. Senate Bill 22-187 expanded a Colorado Bureau of Investigation grant program that supports local recovery programs for people who wander and required the bureau to create a website with participating programs and caregiver resources, according to the Colorado General Assembly.
The program can help law-enforcement agencies seek state funding for tracking equipment for people at risk of becoming lost, KKTV reported. That broader resource does not establish that tracking equipment is being used in Estredge’s case or indicate what investigative tools authorities have deployed.
Similar cases show different search circumstances
Other Colorado missing-person cases illustrate why circumstances matter when comparing searches. In August 2023, a 64-year-old woman with a cognitive impairment was reported missing from Brighton and later found safe; unlike Estredge, she was last seen driving a vehicle, according to The Denver Post.
In a separate Conejos County case reported in May 2025, police searched for a 64-year-old man with onset dementia after his truck was found near a U.S. Forest Service road. That was a rural, vehicle-related search, making it materially different from Estredge’s reported urban, on-foot disappearance, The Denver Post reported.
Those incidents are comparisons, not evidence that missing-person cases involving older adults are increasing statewide. For now, authorities are asking the public to focus on Estredge’s description and last-known direction of travel and to report sightings immediately.
