A 22-year-old woman was killed early Sunday in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 670 westbound near the State Route 315 exit ramp in Columbus, and police say a vehicle that may have been involved in the wreck sped off before officers ever arrived. Jordan Decker was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash, which happened just before 1:30 a.m. near the State Route 315 exit ramp.
Decker was traveling westbound on I-670 when her vehicle was involved in a crash with two other vehicles, according to WSYX. Other people involved in the crash were taken to a hospital for treatment, though their conditions have not been released. Witnesses reported that a fourth vehicle may have been involved, and Columbus police say that vehicle, described as a smaller SUV, left the scene before officers arrived.
The crash happened on I-670 westbound near the SR 315 ramp.
A Pattern of Fleeing Drivers on the Same Freeway
This is not the first time a driver has caused chaos on I-670 and then disappeared. In August, state traffic cameras captured a driver who stopped mid-lane on I-670 near downtown Columbus, triggering a multi-vehicle crash and secondary near-misses before fleeing, as Hoodline reported at the time. Hoodline also reported a deadly crash on Interstate 71.
Police Seek Tips on Missing SUV
The Columbus Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the crash and is asking anyone with information to contact investigators directly at 614-645-4767. Central Ohio Crime Stoppers is also accepting anonymous tips about the crash at 674-461-8477.
If investigators determine the driver of the missing SUV fled the scene of a fatal crash, the driver could initially face a first-degree misdemeanor; penalties can rise to felony charges when a crash causes serious injury or death. A license suspension can range from six months to three years.
