San Jose is starting today under cloudy skies around 63 degrees, but the gray opening should give way to mostly sunny skies and a cooler-than-recent high near 72. The afternoon will be breezy rather than brutal, with northwest winds building to around 12 mph and gusts up to 20 mph.
Rain is not the South Bay’s main story, with Tuesday’s precipitation chance topping out at 7% and staying low through the weekend. Still, the outlook is a meaningful shift from yesterday’s warmer forecast, which had San Jose closer to 75 and a largely dry week, while the broader Bay Area now faces some light rain chances, especially north of the city.
Sunny Afternoon After Cloudy Start
Clouds may linger through the morning, with temperatures climbing from the upper 50s into the 60s before sunshine becomes more widespread around midday. The warmest stretch looks to be from early afternoon through about 5 p.m., when readings reach roughly 69 to 71 degrees and winds turn west-northwest.
Tonight turns partly cloudy with a low near 56. Southwesterly winds could gust up to 18 mph, so patio umbrellas, loose signs and lightweight decorations may need a little attention before sunset.
Foggy Mornings, Gentle Midweek Rain Chances
Tomorrow should be mostly sunny and a bit warmer, near 75, although a weak weather system could bring light rain to the North Bay overnight and lower chances elsewhere. For San Jose, the National Weather Service puts the rain chance at 12% Thursday and 2% Friday.
Thursday is expected to reach 74 after patchy fog before 9 a.m., while Friday should hit about 73 following another foggy start. Coastal areas may hold onto more low clouds, but San Jose should generally clear into sunny afternoons.
Weekend Warmup Returns For Labor Day
Saturday and Sunday stay sunny, with highs near 75 and 77. The bigger rebound arrives Monday, September 7, when San Jose could reach 82 under sunny skies, while overnight lows remain mostly in the mid-to-upper 50s.
No watches, warnings or advisories are posted for San Jose. A light layer should be useful for early mornings this week, with sunglasses and water making more sense by afternoon as the sun takes over.
