Costco Wholesale is preparing to break ground on a new Business Center and Fuel Center at 4909 NE Loop 820 in Haltom City, roughly a mile from H Mart Plaza, marking the first Costco Business Center to land in Tarrant County. Construction could start as soon as December, with the project expected to wrap up by August 2027, per Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation information cited in a report.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Haltom City location will be the first Costco Business Center on the west side of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, with the nearest existing Business Center currently located in Dallas. The format caters to small and medium business owners along with commercial customers like restaurants, convenience stores and offices, according to a report from Fort Worth Report. Shoppers can expect household staples, fresh groceries and signature Costco products alongside professional-grade kitchenware and industrial supplies, plus bulk office items and restaurant equipment not typically stocked at the chain's standard warehouses.
Jobs and Investment Tied to the New Center
The project represents millions of dollars in capital investment and is expected to create more than 100 jobs, the Star-Telegram's report notes, with the same figure previously reported by the paper. The Fort Worth Report account adds that those jobs will carry a minimum salary of $32 an hour. Costco plans to open the Haltom City center in early 2027, per an announcement from the city.
Haltom City Economic Development Director Robert Briggs said Costco's investment is a spark for continued economic development in the community, according to the Star-Telegram's reporting. Briggs also said the investment validates the city's infrastructure preparation and its position for retailers and small businesses. The Costco project joins a growing list of Haltom City economic development wins, including the H Mart Plaza development and other commercial investments reshaping the community, per the same reporting.
Part of a Bigger Development Wave Along the Loop
The Costco site sits close to H Mart Plaza, which anchors a fully leased, 50-acre mixed-use development at 3920 NE Loop 820, according to a separate report from the Star-Telegram. The same corridor is also home to the Diamond Meadows development, where Graham Hart Home Builder is constructing 40 homes on lots at least 60 feet wide, with some homes priced under $500,000. The paper describes Haltom City as being in the middle of a development boom, and it expects the Costco project to attract additional major retailers and restaurants to the area.
The Haltom City project fits into a much larger national push by Costco. The company's CEO, Ron Vachris, has said Costco plans to open 33 new warehouses in fiscal year 2027, including five relocations, as reported by The Hill. The chain has set a goal of opening 30 net-new warehouses every year and says it continues to see significant opportunities for growth in new U.S. markets, mature-market infills and international markets. Among the near-term openings on that list is another Business Center in Chandler, Arizona, slated for November.
How Other Cities Are Handling Similar Projects
Haltom City isn't the only municipality weighing what a Costco Business Center brings to a neighborhood. In Illinois, the Des Plaines City Council voted to advance a proposal for a Costco Business Center and gas station despite community concerns, according to ABC7 Chicago. That site, planned for 2200 and 2400 E. Devon Ave. with the gas station on the west side, would similarly stock office and business products rather than the warehouse chain's typical general inventory, and construction there could begin late this year pending a final council vote.
Back in Haltom City, the timeline still carries some uncertainty. While the TDLR information cited by the Star-Telegram points to construction starting in December and finishing in August 2027, city and local-news accounts have more broadly described the opening as early 2027, and it remains unclear whether those two markers refer to the same milestone.
