The U.S. Marshals Service’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force participated in a fugitive operation across metro Atlanta.
The three-week U.S. Marshals fugitive operation across metro Atlanta ran from March 16 through April 3, 2026, and resulted in 78 arrests — including suspects wanted for child molestation, murder, and armed robbery — along with the seizure of 46 illegal firearms, as reported by CBS News Atlanta.
What Lopez Would Face in Each State
If apprehended, Lopez faces separate legal exposure in each jurisdiction tied to the case. In Wisconsin, fleeing after release on felony bail can constitute felony bail jumping under Wisconsin Statute § 946.49(1)(b), an independent charge carrying its own prison term and bond forfeiture, according to the Wisconsin Court System.
In Georgia, a conviction for felony child molestation under Georgia Code § 16-6-4 carries a mandatory minimum state prison sentence of 5 to 20 years for a first offense, along with court-ordered counseling during incarceration and mandatory sex offender registration. Any such conviction would also trigger Georgia Code § 42-1-12, which requires registration with the local sheriff within 72 hours of release or relocation.
In Oregon, the exposure is even steeper. Under Oregon Revised Statutes § 137.700, known as Ballot Measure 11, major felony sex crimes involving minors carry mandatory minimum prison sentences ranging from 75 months to 300 months, with no possibility of sentence reductions or early parole, according to the Oregon State Legislature.

Should Lopez be captured and returned to Georgia, any state charges tied to Coweta County would be prosecuted through the Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office and tried in the Superior Court of Coweta County in Newnan. It remains an open question which jurisdiction would take initial custody for prosecution once Lopez is found, since extradition priority typically depends on agreements among the district attorneys involved and federal marshals.
