A 14-year-old girl described by authorities as at-risk has been missing since before sunrise Monday, when surveillance cameras caught her near the edge of Apple Inc.'s corporate campus in Cupertino. Mia “Alex” Rivas was last seen on camera at 4:50 a.m. near North Tantau Avenue and Stevens Creek Boulevard, and searchers using tracking dogs combed the area for hours without finding her.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office released an official missing person bulletin describing Rivas as five feet eight inches tall with brown hair and brown eyes, according to KRON4. That bulletin, reported by Sierra Sun Times, lists her weight as 110 pounds. She was last seen wearing black pants, a black sweatshirt with white stars, and blue sneakers with rainbow beads laced through them.
Search Dogs Combed the Area Near Apple's Campus
The intersection where Rivas was last captured on camera is near Apple Park. Sierra Sun Times reports that canine handlers with the county's search and rescue team were unable to locate her Monday after deploying to the area.
Those searchers belong to the Santa Clara County Sheriff Search and Rescue Team. Cupertino has a law-enforcement services contract with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, re-approved this month, as reported by San José Spotlight. The Sheriff's Office is leading the search and public appeal for Rivas.
