A 43-year-old Darlington man was killed Tuesday morning, September 15, 2026, when his car ran a stop sign and collided with a pickup truck at a rural Daviess County intersection, sending the truck flipping into a nearby field. The crash happened at 9:40 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 190 and Route P, about three miles north of Jamesport, and left two other people injured badly enough to require a helicopter flight to a Kansas City hospital.
According to KTTN, the Darlington man was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry east on Route P when he failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the path of a 2024 Ford F-250 that a 77-year-old Gilman City man was driving north on Highway 190. The front of the Ford struck the right side of the Toyota, according to the outlet's account of the crash.
The impact sent the Ford off the northeast corner of the intersection, where it overturned and came to rest on its top in a field. The Toyota, meanwhile, stayed on its wheels and came to rest on northbound Highway 190. The Darlington man was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:40 a.m., roughly an hour after the collision.
Two Airlifted to North Kansas City Hospital
The Ford's driver and a 75-year-old Gilman City woman who was riding as a passenger were both transported by LifeFlight to North Kansas City Hospital. Neither the Darlington man nor the Ford driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, while the Gilman City woman was buckled in, per the report.
Both vehicles were declared total losses and towed from the scene by Bridgeman's of Altamont, the report noted. A separate account from St. Joseph Post similarly described the man's death and the airlift of the two Gilman City residents following the car-and-pickup crash.
