Der Biergarten is hosting its 9th Annual Oktoberfest street party this Saturday at 24th and K streets in Midtown Sacramento from 3 to 9 p.m., with German beer, food and music. Organizers are selling tickets through Eventbrite.
The Midtown bash, covered by FOX40, lands at a growth moment for the business. Just weeks earlier, on August 7, owners Sean and Erika Derfield opened a second venue, Der Biergarten Waterfront, inside the historic Steamers Building at 1108 Front Street in Old Sacramento, according to Sacramento City Express. That waterfront expansion was part of a broader city effort to revitalize the Old Sacramento riverfront, the outlet reported.
The Midtown street party has historically sold out its capped ticket allotment in advance, per the same account.
An Open-Air Beer Garden Built From Shipping Containers
Der Biergarten opened in 2014 as an open-air beer garden in Midtown Sacramento, according to the Sacramento Bee. Today the venue pours beer, including a house signature Starburst radler made from grapefruit hefeweizen mixed with pomegranate cider, alongside pretzels and German sausages, according to Abridged.
Beyond the two Der Biergarten locations, owners Sean, Erika and Jarrett Derfield also operate Sean Finnegan's Pub in Old Sacramento, Abridged reported.
City Rules Behind Closing Down 24th and K
In Old Sacramento, city officials in August launched a pilot program restricting vehicle traffic after 10 p.m. on weekends to improve pedestrian safety, according to CapRadio. That pilot followed late-night disturbances and pedestrian safety concerns in the historic district, the station reported.
Another Sacramento Oktoberfest
Der Biergarten's street party is just one entry in a busy Sacramento-area Oktoberfest season this fall. The Sacramento Turn Verein, the region's longest-running German celebration, holds its 57th Annual Oktoberfest October 9 and 10 at Turner Hall on J Street, featuring beer kegs imported directly from Munich and folk performances by Alpentänzer Schuhplattler dancers, according to the Sacramento Turn Verein.
