A New Jersey-born Turkish restaurant chain has planted its first Texas flag in Richardson, serving up fresh-sliced doner, kebabs and İskender out of a spot on N. Plano Road. Doner Point opened its Richardson location on July 24, marking the company's expansion beyond its East Coast roots and into the Dallas-Fort Worth dining scene.
The restaurant held its grand opening from 2 to 5 p.m. that Friday at 1840 N. Plano Road, according to a promotional announcement on donerpointusa.com, which described the concept simply as “Turkish doner, made fresh, 100% halal.” As Community Impact reports, the Richardson restaurant is the first Texas location for the New Jersey-based chain, which built its name serving doner, kebabs, wraps, sandwiches and salads.
From New Jersey Roots to a Texas Debut
Doner Point's origins trace back to New Jersey, where the company operates two locations serving fresh doner and traditional Turkish dishes daily, per the restaurant's own announcement. Doner itself is a traditional Turkish meat dish, and the chain has built its identity around slicing it fresh rather than relying on pre-cut or frozen product.
At the Richardson location, the restaurant says it slices real Turkish doner fresh off the spit and serves it alongside kebabs, wraps, sandwiches and salads. The company also emphasizes its sourcing, stating on its site that it is proud to serve one hundred percent beef and lamb, all prepared as halal.
Halal Assurance and What's on the Menu
Beyond doner and kebabs, the Richardson menu includes İskender, a layered Turkish doner dish, along with rice pudding and Turkish tea, according to a listing on Zabihah, a halal restaurant directory. The same listing notes that Doner Point offers table service to its customers rather than counter-only ordering.
On the question of halal status, Zabihah's listing states that staff gave verbal assurance of the restaurant's halal practices when asked. Doner Point's own marketing echoes that positioning, repeatedly branding its offerings as one hundred percent halal beef and lamb across its website.
How to Order
For Richardson diners who'd rather skip the dine-in experience, Doner Point says customers can book a table or order online for takeout or delivery directly through the company's website. The Richardson restaurant is located at 1840 N. Plano Road, Richardson, TX 75081, the same address listed for July's grand opening event.
